I am an American, a mother and grandmother, wife and a daughter of legal immigrants who held the American Dream as their greatest accomplishment. I have spent most of my life being taught, by process of example, how not to take things for granted, how you earn what you need and how to be proud to be an American. My father was a child during The Great Depression. He knew what it was like not to have many things like nice clothes and toys, but he always knew love and respect. His parents bought the family home by working hard. My grandfather dug subways working underground. My grandmother sewed button holes by hand at a clothing factory. She made 3 cents a button hole and was lucky to complete 50 a day; and still it was a good living. My Dad was born in 1925 and by 1929 the great American Dream seemed more like a nightmare, but they did not know it at the time. The life they left in Italy was rich and comfortable compared to the life they came to in America.
This was my ancestors home in Italy.
| Our Casa is the best preserved reinassance building in Ferrara, |
of extraordinary historic and artistic interest. It was the residence of Giovanni, it is the work of the court architect Pietro Bono Brasavola. It did not fall into decay because it was inherited by the nuns of the Corpus Domini order who lived there without making any changes to its structure. There is a marked contrast between the stern facade and inside, with the irregular-shaped courtyard and its loggias and frescoes. Much of the decoration in the rooms of The Casa has been saved. There are fresco cycles in the Sala delle Sibille (Room of Sibyls), with its original terracotta fireplace bearing the coat of arms of Giovanni’a family, in the adjoining Saletta dei Profeti (Room of the Prophets), depicting allegories from the bible and in other rooms, some of which were commissioned by cardinal Ippolito d'Este and painted by the school of Camillo and Cesare Filippi (XVI century). |

The Casa was turned into a museum and was opened in 1952 and houses a princeless colletion of feescoes and statues from churches and palaces of Ferrara which no longer exist. The second courtyard of The Casa with its loggia was used for day-to-day household tasks and overlooked by the apartments of cardinal Ippolito. On the upper floor is a curious wooden structure decorated with allegorical figures, used to divide up the space in the rooms. |
By the time my Dad was 12 he was working a nearly full time job at a stable while attending school. His earnings went into the family money for food and necessities. My Dad is 83 today and remembers his childhood with happy memories in a troublesome time. He has warned me many times over the last 10 years about the deteriorating state of the United States. He has spoken often about the decay on the United States industrial base. He warned after the attack on the United States on 9-11. He warned when slowly all of the items Americans consume including food were being imported from countries like China and Japan. He warned when the United States continued to look away at the millions of illegal aliens entering the country and taking American's jobs. I’ve been telling him all these years, it will get better. I think I finally realized that it won’t get better until we make that happen. Until we force the 111th Congress and President Obama that this is spend all, do nothing, take care of my supporters attitude must stop. Until we the people tell our elected officials they must put one group of people above all others; those people are the people of United States. The legal citizens that work and build the core foundation of this country; they are the ones who elect them to represent their interests whose interest are not being represented. It is time for all Americans to take back this country and force Congress, The President and the United States Government to work for the people, not for themselves or Unions, or Banks or Corporate America.
Robert F. Kennedy once said, "Things don't happen, things are made to happen."
I'm going to Washington on 912 to protest irresponsible government and out of control taxation. How about you?

Well, I have one each "Jarhead" staying with us at our campsite. There was also a cabin room available at Cherry Hill that is available as far as I know right now. Just let me know if you want contact with the person who has it available. The more at Cherry Hill, the merrier.
